‘Unhinged’: Ex-CIA chief says Trump unfit for office, must be removed over Iran war

US President Donald Trump

‎Former CIA director John Brennan has called for the removal of US President Donald Trump from office, following a series of explosive threats he issued last week, including suggesting the destruction of the entire Iranian civilization.

‎Speaking in a televised interview, Brennan said Trump’s rhetoric toward Iran showed the president was “clearly unhinged” and unfit to serve as commander-in-chief.

‎He argued that the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution was effectively “written with him in mind.”

‎The former CIA chief further warned that such language carries grave risks given the vast military power at the president’s disposal, including nuclear capabilities.

‎The remarks come amid intensifying criticism of Trump’s handling of the war of aggression against Iran, particularly following the collapse of recent negotiations and the sharp escalation in military tensions.

‎More than 70 Democratic lawmakers have already called for invoking the 25th Amendment.

‎Trump’s threats, some of them expletive-laden, drew widespread condemnation from US political figures, especially as he attempted to pressure Iran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

‎He threatened to strike Iran’s power plants and bridges unless the Islamic Republic "reopens" the strategic waterway, which Tehran has closed to enemies and their allies in retaliation for the latest round of US and Israeli aggression.

‎Politicians in Washington warned that such rhetoric signals a dangerous escalation.

‎They have raised serious questions about Trump’s mental stability, highlighting the risks posed to American troops, with some openly calling for his removal from office.

‎Senator Bernie Sanders condemned the remarks as “dangerous and mentally unbalanced.”

‎Meanwhile, Senator Chris Murphy said Trump’s conduct raises serious constitutional concerns, including the potential invocation of the 25th Amendment.
